The New iPhone SE – But Why Apple?

iPhone SE 2020

Apple has announced a new generation of iPhone SE outside the month of September for the first time since 2016, and outside autumn for only the second time in a decade. Apple’s popular first generation iPhone SE was discontinued in September 2018, and fans of small, affordable handsets have been asking for a replacement since then. Apple introduced this new iPhone SE will have the most affordable iPhone Features A13 Bionic, the fastest chip in a smartphone, and the best single-camera system in an iPhone with 4.7 inch screen size. In other words, they successfully recycled the iPhone 8 for the new strategy for the on-premium phone market. According to the Apple webpage, it has similar performance compared to iPhone 8. To conclude, it can simply be called as iPhone 8 with A13 Bionic chip.

Why did Apple decide to launch the 2nd generation of the iPhone SE ?

This question requires some background information about Apple’s achievements in the previous cases.

  • Apple’s Supply Chain

Apple purchases components and materials from various suppliers, then gets them shipped to the assembling plant in China. From there, products are shipped directly to consumers who bought from Apple’s Online Store. For the effective distribution, Apple keeps their products in many sites over the world and ships products from there too. For any reason such as overproduction of iPhone 8 models or targeting the niche market, iPhone SE is the brilliant method for inventory management for Apple. It was a very logical and obvious choice for them.

Using the iPhone 8 model, Apple could reduce the production cost while recycling the remaments of other parts. This also allows them to target the new market. I think these factors lead Apple to determine the new model as iPhone SE for 2020.
